It was described as a solid team effort led by Captain Darren Sammy who was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling that landed him a five wicket haul. Sammy motivated the rest of his team with a fine spell of 17-7-29-5.
Even Pakistan’s Captain praised the bowling of the West Indies and attributed their success to the overall spells of the bowlers.
In addition to Sammy, other bowlers used were Roach who had figures of 13-1-30-1; Rampaul with 21-6-48-4; Bishoo with 21-5-56-0 (1nb); and Nash with 1-0-2-0.
Scores in the match were West Indies 226 & 152 and Pakistan 160 & 178.
West Indies won by 40 runs. The second and final test will be played at Warner Park, St. Kitts, next week, from Friday 20th – Tuesday 24th May.
