On Thursday, August 12, the opening day of the tournament, there were wins for St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Jamaica and Trinidad.
Jamaica defeated Barbados by one run after bowling out the Bajans for an uncompetitive score of 99 from 46 overs. Jamaica, who placed second in the 2009 tournament, needed only 29 overs to reach the target, with a total of 100-2. Jamaica’s captain, Stephanie Taylor made a colouful 62 to be named Player-of-the Match.
Trinidad & Tobago’s 152 runs turned out to be too much for Guyana who fell short by 41 runs at Victoria Park.
At the Arnos Vale Playing Field, St. Vincent easily defeated Grenada by 48 runs after taking just 42.1 overs to dismiss Grenada for a disappointing 78 runs. St. Vincent had earlier made 126 with Captain Cordell Jack top scoring with 60 off 88 balls.
In the other match that was played on Thursday, Dominica lost to St. Lucia by 12 runs. St. Lucia batted first and made 118 which proved too much for Dominica who reached 106.
The next round of matches resumes on Friday August 14 with matches in the two zones established for the competition.
