The announcement of Budget Day came from Clerk of the Nevis Island Assembly, Mr. Dwight Morton, in a release circulated to media houses in St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday, 8th December.
According to the release, the Budget will be delivered at the Nevis Island Assembly Chambers at Hamilton House in Charlestown from 10:00am.
The fiscal package will be delivered by Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, Joseph Parry. He will also outline the performance of his government and the way forward for Nevis.
This will be the sixth budget address to be delivered by the Mr. Parry, since the Nevis Reformation Party took office in July, 2006
Since the NIA Elections earlier this year, opposition members have refused to participate in the meetings of the Assembly, as a means of protest, over the last local elections, held on 11th July, 2011. The matter of voter disenfranchisement is now before the OECS High Court.
In addition, the opposition members who are in the Federal Parliament are currently boycotting the National Budget Debate in Basseterre, as they protest the government’s unwillingness to introduce legislation for integrity in public life and freedom of information, which they claim have been deliberately blocked by government.
