The ticket was purchased at a Sunoco station in Lapeer and the winner has a year to claim the money, lottery spokeswoman Andi Brancato said.
“This is enormous,” she said, explaining that the winner can choose to receive an after-tax lump sum of $241 million or take the full $337 million in 30 annual payments that are subject to tax.
An employee at the gas station was woken at 2:00 a.m. by a text message telling him that the winning ticket had been purchased at one of the three Sunocos in Lapeer, the Detroit News said.
It is the third-largest jackpot in the history of Powerball, which operates in 44 U.S. jurisdictions, and the seventh-biggest in any national lottery.
A person in Nebraska won $2 million in the latest drawing, while eight others purchased $1 million winning tickets in Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia, Powerball said. EFE
