Woman charged with granddaughter’s murder

Eighteen-year-old Thomas died Monday following an alleged beaten by Roberts.

Cornwall-Roberts was taken into custody immediately after Thomas was found dead. She had been assisting police with their investigations, but was charged with the capital offence last evening.

Residents reportedly heard loud screams from the home, which Thomas shared with her grandmother, just after midnight Sunday.

A neighbour previously told OBSERVER media she heard loud noises coming from the home and thought it was children wandering about late at night.

The neighbour said, “Later on I heard when the grandmother said ‘get up now me say,’ and I said Lord have mercy, she start pan Venus (Jael) again”.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene from around 3 am on Monday while police were called in between 6 and 7 am.

Thomas, a former student of All Saints Secondary School, had been living with her grandmother from birth.

Her mother was also a resident in the home, but she later moved out leaving the young girl behind.

OBSERVER media contacted both parents of the deceased who declined comment.
