The first fatality was Saadiq Sackoor. He would have been 24 on Saturday.Police said around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sackoor and a group of friends got into an argument with another group around the Queen’s Park Savannah in the St Clair area.
During the altercation, Sackoor and four of his friends were stabbed.Sackoor was stabbed once in the neck and died on his way to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The four other injured men were also taken to hospital and up to last night remained in stable condition.Later on Tuesday night, at Bon Air, Arouca, the second murder occurred.Around 11.15 p.m., the victim, Kerry Thomas, had dropped off a female friend at her home and was walking back to his own home when he was confronted by a group of men at the corner of Waterloo and Monroe Roads.
One of the men shot Thomas several times about the body, killing him on the spot.There was no motive for the murder. The third murder occurred in Morvant.Police said at 3.45 a.m. yesterday, officers of the Morvant Police Station received a call about a bullet-riddled body at Second Caledonia Road, Morvant.
A team of officers responded and found the body of a man whose identity remained unknown up to press time last night.Police said the man had been shot 24 times. They are asking that anyone who may have known this man to call the Morvant Police Station.
Later, at around 1.15 p.m., officers of the Central Division received a call about the torso of a woman found in a river off Southern Main Road, Warrenville, Cunupia. A team of officers led by Supt Johnny Abraham, along with Sgt Jerry Hosein of the Cunupia CID, examined the area for clues.
The woman, who appeared to be in her mid-20s, was also unidentified up to last night as her head as well as both arms and feet were missing. Police said they don’t know if the woman’s body parts were removed deliberately or she may have been partially eaten by caimans.
The “Jane Doe”, who appeared to be light-skinned, sported a heart tattoo with wings on her lower back and a spider tattoo on her right thigh and two blue studs near her navel. She wore a blue T-shirt marked “Baby Phat” as well as a red bra and a pair of purple and white panties.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the woman is asked to call the Chaguanas Police Station.
The year’s murder toll stood at 52 up to press time last night, according to an Express tally.
