Officials in the Federal government in Basseterre have revealed that the Workshop will be held under the theme: Economic Union: ‘Improved Prospects for the OECS Region and its People.’
This forum will allow for the dissemination of information relevant to the new governance structure and protocol designed to ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty and the opportunities of the Economic Union (EU) for the Union’s people, said a statement from the government.
The Director General of the OECS and Chairperson of the OECS Commission along with the OECS Commissioners will be the main presenters at this event designed to sensitize the participants of the major provisions and opportunities of the EU.

The Revised Treaty of Basseterre which came into force on January 21, 2011 makes provision for the establishment of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Economic Union and the implementation of mechanisms to strengthen the integration of the Member States of the Eastern Caribbean.
The workshop will be held on August 13, 2012 at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott Resort at 9:30am.
The Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, which is guided by Ambassador Astona Browne, acts as the national coordinating entity for integration related initiatives. They have also invited the participation of representatives of various media organizations in St. Kitts and Nevis.
