The troupe was officially launched with a block party at Tony’s Liquor Centre on Saturday, 27th November and according to the Public Relations Officer, Osdel ‘Scottie’ Hanley, it was one of the best launches since its inception in 2001.
“We are very pleased with the turn out for the launch where there were over 250 persons signing up for the packages. This is the best that we have ever done on the first day with the launch of the troupe,” Hanley told MiyVue.com.
“Even with the addition of the other J’Ouvert troupes it was somewhat of a surprise to see that many people registering with us during a launch,” He added.
According to the PRO, similar packages were offered during last year’s launch but the support this year surpassed past launches.
“I got at the launch location just before 4 pm and the amount of persons that was already there waiting to register was overwhelming and we are very pleased with the support given and it shows that persons are eager for carnival this year,” Hanley explained.
According to the PRO, packages were available for a special price of $EC50 on Saturday but would now be sold at the regular price of EC$75.
Packages include a bag, T-Shirt, whistle, Mohawk, water bottle, face mask, body paint, bandana, unlimited drinks and food on J’Ouvert Morning and the much anticipated wet down party on Bank Street.
During the launch the Movado models displayed a first look at this year’s Xtreme T-shirts and the various creative ways they can be worn and designed.
Also present at the launch was Carnival Chairman Clement ‘Monarch’ Ogarro, who gave brief remarks. There were also performances by Hot Rod with “Pork for dinner”, Shakki with her smash soca hit, ‘High for Carnival’ and the 3 peat road march champions, Grand Masters.
Xtreme won title for best J’Ouvert troupe last year.
