Youth S.T.E.P Aims at Aiding Young Girls

Ms Tiffany Jaimes, who has been residing in the same village for almost two years, has organised the Youth Summer Training and Education Program (S.T.E.P) to further assist young girls in the effort of becoming strong and positive ‘young ladies’.

“Together, with the head teacher, Mr. John Gumbs, and the staff at St. Paul’s Primary School, I have established the Girls Leadership Program.”  she explained, “This program has helped to build goals, enhance communication skills, and improve the self esteem amongst young girls within St. Paul’s village and surrounding communities.”Ms-Tiffany-assisting-Grils

As part of the Girls Leadership Program, Ms Jaimes with the help of a fellow teacher, has been hosting a ‘Girls Club’ on the afternoons of school days at the St Paul’s Primary School where a number of girls attend and get involve in discussions, art activities, health and wellness and games.

Ms Tiffany, as she is affectionately referred as by the girls and villagers alike, added, that she then decided  to continue the work, and build upon the program by inviting the girls to participate in Youth S.T.E.P. (Summer Training & Education Program) throughout August 2011.”

The program is being held on each Thursday of the month of August and so far has seen the girls being mentored on Setting Goals- short term and long term in the first week, and Conflict Resolution in the second.

Tiffany-JaimesEffective Communication is topic that will be tackled today, Thursday 18th August, 2011 and Respect-for self, would bring down the curtains next week.

Fourteen young girls who have shown leadership potential; are presently participating in Youth S.T.E.P.  Eleven (11) primary school students from Grades 5 and 6, as well as 3 high school students from 2nd Form level.

 

 

The program is being facilitated by community leaders, parents and family members, additional Peace Corps Volunteers, and Ms Jaimes herself.

It is in Miss Tiffany’s hopes that the participants will develop their skills through and at the end of the summer program.

 

 

Ms Tiffany Jaimes is also the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the St Paul’s Community Group, Youth Reuniting Reconstructing and Reviving St Paul’s (YRS).
