The event, which was staged at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, was attended by acting Governor General, Sir Edmund Lawrence and Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas.
While addressing the invited guests, Chairman of the ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Peter Jenkins, indicated that the event was deemed necessary to pay tribute to the many men and women and institutions who toiled throughout the 50 years of existence of ZIZ Radio, to ensure that the station continued to achieve sustainable growth levels and maintain its leadership role in the local and regional media community.
Honourees were recognized in various categories, including Gold Medallion, Gold Star and Gold Corporate Partners. There was also a category for Special Recognition.
The list of those awarded included present and former staff members who worked at various periods of the station’s five decades of operation.

Amongst the list of companies and organizations receiving Gold Corporate Partner awards were RAMS, LIME, Carib Brewery, TDC, St. Kitts Bottling Company, and S.L. Horsford, while the Antioch Baptist Church and National Bank were presented with Special Recognition Awards.
Wednesday night’s award ceremony was also addressed by Minister of Information, Mr. Nigel Carty, General Manager of ZIZ, Mr. Viere Galloway and special guest speaker, Mr. Ricky Singh of Guyana, who is one of the most outstanding journalists in the Caribbean.
Over 200 persons were in attendance for the event that also featured entertaining performances from the contestants in the upcoming, ZIZ Song Competition, scheduled for May 28th this year.
