ZIZ Radio Officially Starts Celebration of 50 years

Scores of officials and media workers joined current staff members, management and members of the station’s Board of Directors in a divine worship at the St. Georges Anglican Church on Sunday, 6th February, to launch the activities to mark the important milestone.

At Sunday’s service, members of staff for ZIZ were challenged by Father Christopher Archibald to continue to promote good morals and values.

“You must join the church in helping to keep our nation pure and undefiled.

You must not broadcast anything and everything simply just to get good ratings or popularity.  The media, the church and all social partners must join together to promote purity in all areas of our society,” he said.

Acting General Manager, Mr. Viere Galloway read the first scripture and Board member Heather Richardson, made a short presentation on behalf of the ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation, ZBC.

Richardson said that she was delighted to take the opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Directors, to publicly extend best wishes to the management and staff for a successful 50th anniversary celebration.  I deem it an honour and a privilege to be serving as a director of ZBC at a time when this historic milestone is being achieved,” she said.

The service, which was conducted by Archdeacon Valentine Hodge, was attended by a number of dignitaries including the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Sam Condor, Minister of Community Development, Ms. Marcella Liburd and Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Williams.

The church service was used as one of the early activities to introduce the celebration of ZIZ Radio’s 50th Anniversary and was held under the theme, ‘Proudly Uniting, Leading, Serving and Entertaining For Fifty Years’.

ZIZ Radio turns 50 on Saturday 5th March, 2011.
